Books as Movies 2008

Did you know that so many of the movies you see were really books first??  Sometimes movies are made into books, too.  Here is a list of books that were made into movies for 2008. Personally, I like to read the book first and let myself imagine the story first...and then go see the movie.  Some of these movies are already out...but that doesn't mean you can't still read the book first and then go check out the movies.  Also, did you know that you can check out movies at the library?  How cool is that?  They have VHS or videos, and they also have DVDs.  The best part? Totally FREE!  Just remember to return them on time, sometimes you can't check them out for as long as books.  Let me know how you thought the movie compared to the book!!

This series is definitely a favorite!  It's great for teen girls and is a fun story of friendship.

City of Ember - October 2008

This is the beginning of an awesome science fiction series about a very interesting community.

The Secret Life of Bees - October 2008

This is a great story of a girl whose mom died when she was little and she runs away to find out more about her.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - November 2008

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I am sad that the series has ended...but at least we have the movies to look forward to!

The Road - November 2008

Twilight - December 2008

Twilight is one of my absolute favorite books!  It is a fantastic, vampire, action, love story!  How cool does the cast look?  It is awesome!  I dare you to read it!

Author Spotlight - David Lubar

David Lubar is a well-known young adult author. I found out he will be visiting Canton Middle School next year! You can visit his website at http://www.davidlubar.com/ to learn more about him and the books he has written. I found out he has three cats, he is from New Jersey, and he has a small family. The most interesting fact I learned about him: he has designed and programmed video games! How cool is that? He designed and programmed Home Alone, Frogger, and Super Breakout for Game Boy. Here's what he looks like:

Here are some of the books he has written. I have only read some of the short stories in a few of the "Weenies" books. They are usually kind of creepy. I love to read them near Halloween...but they would be fun to read around a campfire this summer! Short stories are fun because you don't have to read the whole book if you don't want to!

I think it's pretty cool to be able to meet an author! If you are going to Canton you may want to read some of his books so you can ask questions or know what he is talking about when he visits. And...if you are not going to Canton, you may just want to read his books because they look interesting to you.
